About Shehanly

What Shehanly Is For

Shehanly is an independent resource for United States homeowners who are trying to answer one deceptively simple question: is this home energy upgrade actually worth the money?

Heat pumps, rooftop solar, attic insulation, new windows, heat pump water heaters — every one of these is sold with a payback promise. Some of those promises hold up. Many do not, because the contractor quoting you has no incentive to model your climate zone, your electricity rate, your existing ductwork, or the rebate you may or may not qualify for.

We publish the numbers behind those decisions in plain English, and we show our work.

What We Cover

  • Real installed costs — not manufacturer MSRP, but what equipment plus labour plus permits typically comes to, and why the range is so wide.
  • Payback and break-even math — the assumptions spelled out, so you can swap in your own electricity rate and see whether the answer changes.
  • Rebates and tax credits — federal, state and utility programmes, including the eligibility traps that disqualify people after they have already bought.
  • Equipment comparisons — how the major categories differ in efficiency, cold-weather performance, noise and expected service life.
  • When not to do it — the situations where the honest answer is that an upgrade will not pay for itself, and what to do instead.

How We Work

Every cost figure we publish is traceable to a named source: federal agency datasets, state energy office reports, utility rate schedules, manufacturer specification sheets, or published contractor pricing surveys. Where we present a range, we say what sits at each end of it and why.

We do not accept payment for coverage, and we do not let advertisers or affiliate partners see articles before publication. Our full methodology, sourcing standards and correction process are documented on our Editorial Policy page.

Who Writes This

[Replace this section with your own name, background and a photograph before you apply to any ad network. A named, identifiable human being behind the site is one of the strongest trust signals you can send to both readers and search engines. Describe any hands-on experience you have — a heat pump you installed, a solar quote you negotiated, an energy audit you sat through. Specific lived experience is what separates a site that ranks from a site that does not.]

Corrections and Feedback

Energy prices move, rebate programmes expire, and equipment specifications change. If you find something on Shehanly that is out of date or wrong, tell us through the contact page and we will correct it and note the change at the foot of the article.

Independence

Shehanly is reader-supported. We run display advertising and may earn a commission from some links. Neither affects which products we cover or what we conclude about them. See our Disclaimer for the full statement.
